In the history of American architecture and the arts, the American Renaissance was the period ca 1876–1917 characterized by renewed national self-confidence and a feeling that the United States was the heir to Greek democracy, Roman law, and Renaissance humanism.

A major American novelist of the early 20th century.He is known for mixing highly original, poetic, rhapsodic, and impressionistic prose with autobiographical writing. His books, written and published from the 1920s to the 1940s, vividly reflect on American culture and mores of the period, albeit filtered through Wolfe's sensitive, sophisticated and hyper-analytical perspective.

→Definition:  the fact that something is incongruous

 

3. hysteria 歇斯底里

→Definition:  excitement or emotion that is uncontrollable

→e.g. Her thin shoulders were shaking convulsively in hysteria . 

 

4. fabulous

→Definition: very good/ very large in amount or size/ not real ; told about in a story
