3. scrape (V.) [skrep]
to remove something by rubbing something rough or sharp against it, or to rub part of your body against something rough that tears away or injures your skin
eg. Jackie scraped her knee on the wall as she was climbing over it.

eg. To summon ( a devil or spirit ) by magical or supernatural power.


7. herald (v.) [ˋhɛrəld]
to announce or signal that something is approaching
eg. This point in time will herald another wave of dollar weakness.


8. relish (v.)[ˋrɛlɪʃ] 
to like or enjoy something:
eg.She won't relish having to get up before dawn to catch that train.


9. encampment (n.)[ɪnˋkæmpmənt]

a group of tents or temporary shelters put in one place
eg. My recon squad had engaged Saddam's army in a small Bedouin encampment.



10. murky(adj.)[ˋmɝkɪ]
dark or cloudy
eg.She threw it into the river's murky depths.



11. foam (v.) [fom]
to produce a mass of small bubbles
eg.He looked like a madman, foaming at the mouth.



12. negotiation (n.)[nɪ͵goʃɪˋeʃən]
the process of discussing something with someone in order to reach an agreement, or the discussions themselves
eg.The way forward in this situation is by diplomacy and negotiation.



13. reverend (n.)[ˋrɛvərənd]
 a title for a member of the Christian clergy (= official workers of the church)
eg. Our worship today is led by the Reverend John Parker.




14. threshold (n.)[ˋθrɛʃhold]
 a point at which something starts
eg. I'll never cross the threshold of your house again.




15. cargo (n.)[ˋkɑrgo]
 goods carried by a ship, aircraft, or other vehicle
eg. The transportation took off with its cargo at midnight.



16.slacken (v.)[ˋslækən]
to loosen something, or to become loose
eg. We've been really busy, but things are starting to slacken off now.



17. anchor (n.)[ˋæŋkɚ]
a heavy metal object attached to a boat by a rope or chain that, when dropped into the water and resting on the bottom, keeps the boat from moving
eg.We weighed anchor in the afternoon and started for the Philippines.



18. vessel (n.) [ˋvɛs!]
a large boat or ship
eg.We had sighted the vessel and were following it.



19.affliction (n.)[əˋflɪkʃən] 
to make someone or something suffer physically or mentally
eg.Now he was in deep affliction for the loss of his brother.



20.altar (n.)[ˋɔltɚ]
a type of table used in religious ceremonies
eg.The pews, the pulpit and the altar are of a piece with the simple elegance of the church itself.



21.smite(v.)[smaɪt]
to hit someone forcefully or to have a sudden powerful or destructive effect on someone
eg.The lips are compressed for curses, and the hands clenched and ready to smite.

 the killing of animals for their meat, or the killing of large numbers of animals in a cruel manner

a hard, black substance similar to coal that can be used as fuel or, in the form of sticks, as something to draw with
